Development Geophysicist (Reservoir Modellor)

Position Description:

• The Earth Scientist will play a key role in delivering in a variety of field development projects.
• Understanding of the key process comprising the upstream value chain including leasing, prospect generation and maturation, exploratory drilling, delineation, and production processes.
• Project work will include both large scale (full-field, dense well control) and small scale (few wells and/or conceptual) projects incorporating data from wells, seismic, mapped surfaces and other data sources (cores, etc)
• Keenly aware of business drivers.
• Performs reservoir risk assessments and assists with decision and economic analysis.
• General knowledge of project management concepts.

• Reservoir characterization
• Structural and stratigraphic 3D modeling, leading to OOIP and OGIP calculations, reservoir visualization, opportunity identification, and input to fluid-flow simulations.
• Depending on experience level, additional tasks include training/mentoring other Earth Scientists and Engineers and identification/transfer of technology.
• Managing multiple projects and in some cases leading the project management process for project work.
• Proactively and effectively interacting with the Asset Teams.
• Capturing and sharing best practices and lessons learned.
• Providing databases, models, and documentation that can be used for ongoing reservoir management.
• Participating in technical peer reviews and Decision Review Boards (DRB).
• Coordinating with technical experts (internally within the company and externally within the industry) to keep abreast of technical advances.
• Functioning as a technical resource to the Business Unit.
• Seeking opportunities to mentor less experienced earth scientists in reservoir modeling and management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In order to be considered for this job, applicants must have:

• Bachelors Degree in Geology or Geological Engineering
• Minimum of three(3)years of experience as an Earth Scientist in a geological discovery/asset role.
• Experience working with Petroleum Engineers and familiarity with the application of 3D models in reservoir management.
• Experience with development geology work processes.
• The ability to integrate seismic, well and production data in order to evaluate reservoir characteristics and develop earth models.
• The ability to work with different teams to identify new drilling and workover candidates in a variety of sedimentary basins.
• A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated skills in reservoir characterization skills such as structural mapping, stratigraphic interpretation and formation evaluation.
• Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and develop a high level of proficiency with geological and reservoir modeling software.
• Working knowledge of PC- and Workstation-based geologic interpretation packages, including 3D modeling, computer mapping, and Formation Evaluation software.
• Excellent verbal, written and oral presentation skills, ability to develop effective presentations to support recommendations
• Proven ability to work with in a cross-functional team to perform detailed subsurface assessments, reservoir management plans and reservoir development proposals.
• Effective teamwork skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

In addition to the required qualifications, the successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate:

• Intermediate level 3D modeling experience
• Formal training in geo-statistics concepts and principles
